From my earliest memories, I’ve always had a fondness for solitude. It’s not that I didn’t enjoy the company of friends, but rather I’ve always had a preference for a quieter way of life, finding peace and contentment in my own company
the term introvert means:
a person who is predominantly focused on internal thoughts and feelings rather than on external things or social interaction, often characterized as being quiet or withdrawn
My quiet lifestyle sometimes makes me question if I’m fulfilling my role in God’s eyes. I understand the importance of engaging with the world, being a part of the community, and utilizing the talents God has given me. There’s also the calling to share the Gospel.
As an introvert, I find these tasks challenging and often outside my comfort zone,
I often wonder about my role in God’s plan, especially when I feel like I don’t have much to offer society. It’s a challenging thought, especially in times when negative thoughts, which can be so undermining, seem to find their way into my mind more easily
I lack the necessary skills and knowledge and feel inadequate
I often find myself comparing myself to others as they are more gifted than me
Satan is constantly seeking to fill our minds with destructive thought
turning it into negative self-criticism or a feeling of being inherently less valuable or capable in social settings.
We need to understand that introversion is not a flaw or weakness, but a part of the diversity of God’s creation and we can actively engage in community life in ways that are authentic and comfortable for them
God often chooses the most unexpected individuals for His purposes.
My grandson Shawn wonderfully illustrates the truth that God can use individuals of all abilities to fulfill His purpose and plan. Born with special needs, Shawn was autistic and nonverbal, often preferring his own company as he wasn’t inclined towards much interaction. Yet, his presence in this world was incredibly significant. Shawn had a deep love for giving hugs, warmly embracing everyone he met.
One day, during a visit to the park when Shawn was around four years old, he approached a woman and gave her a heartfelt hug. She returned his embrace warmly and expressed her gratitude, mentioning how much she really needed that hug at that moment
God doesn’t demand specific skills or extensive knowledge to work through us. He often chooses the simplest among us to fulfill his plans. The Bible holds many stories demonstrating how God accomplishes His purposes through ordinary individuals
In my journey to find meaning in life while embracing my introverted nature, I turned to God for guidance. Each day, as I set out, I would pray for Him to use me as His instrument, to place me in situations where I could be a blessing to someone or reflect His light.
Acknowledging my struggles with communication, I also prayed for opportunities to enhance this skill, always alert for chances to engage in even brief conversations with those around me.
I often felt anxious about encountering situations that seemed to stretch beyond my capabilities. Yet, in my morning Bible study sessions, I am comforted as a reminder that God can use challenging circumstances as opportunities for my personal and spiritual growth and to have faith in him.
This morning, as I set out, I had the delightful opportunity to engage in a conversation with a Costco employee who was distributing free samples. During our chat, a customer began sharing his experiences in the Navy. This opened up a perfect opportunity for me to join the conversation, as my son had gone through Navy boot camp.
in conclusion
God has a remarkable way of using ordinary individuals to accomplish His extraordinary purposes
it’s not about possessing exceptional skills or talents, but rather about being open, willing, and obedient to His call. Each of us, in our unique way, holds a significant place in God’s plan
Whether we’re are engaging in a simple conversation with a Costco employee or someone like Shawn, whose pure heart with hugs touched many lives, we are all instruments of God’s love and grace. Our ordinary lives, when surrendered to God, can lead to extraordinary impact.
Remember, God doesn’t call the equipped; He equips the called
He takes our availability more seriously than our ability
