In a journey where good intentions and actions often collide in the most unexpected ways,
in these times, we find ourselves in the middle of chaos, striving to understand the reasons behind it all.
Having the right intent and trying to do the right thing does not always bring the right results
How do we achieve the right results, with the right intentions without yielding into chaos ?
The bible holds the critical answer to this question
2 Samual 6:1-8
This is a story about David having good intentions and doing the right thing to only have Uzzah
struck dead by God and leaving David angry and wondering why?
David gathered a group of his men and went to get back the Ark of the Covenant that the Philistines had stolen from them and bring it back to Jerusalem. The Ark of the Covenant was placed on a cart pulled by oxen. When the oxen stumbled, Uzzah reached out to steady the Ark of the Covenant and God struck him dead. Uzzah’s death was a sobering moment for David leaving him angry.
What did David do wrong?
For the past two years, I had struggled with the same question:
What did I do wrong when I had good intentions?
Two years back, a person very dear to me struggled through heartache and tears, to let go of something that was full of cherished memories. Moved by compassion, I offered to safeguard this treasured possession, and ensured her that it would remain within the family on her behalf.
My intentions were good, and in my heart, I believed I had done the right thing,
yet chaos broke out and a family divided leaving me to wonder why?
The Bible is not just a collection of stories,
When you deeply yearn for an intimate relationship with God,
hungry for his word by digging deeper into scripture
one can find that it serves as God’s voice, speaking directly to you
This is just one of the ways that God communicates with us
I’ve heard individuals mention that God is speaking to them about various matters,
yet I’ve struggled to fully understand how He speaks to us.
Faithfully, each morning, I do not just read the Bible, but I dig deep into scripture
It is in these moments, that God speaks directly to me, providing answers to my questions
through the stories the bible holds
I now have a genuine understanding of the ways in which God communicates with us
So back to David
What did he do wrong when his intentions were right?
David did not follow God’s instruction, moving the Ark of the Covenant was done in the wrong manner
Numbers 4:5-6- the Ark of the Covenant was suppose to be covered and carried with poles
So back to me
What did I do wrong when my intentions were right in my heart?
I also did not follow God’s instructions
When chaos unfolded, none of us followed God’s instructions. We addressed our problems using worldly methods, allowing Satan to take the spotlight.
The story of David and Uzzah reminds me that good intentions can lead to chaos when we don’t adhere to God’s instructions
God does not give us blessing for our efforts
God gives us blessing for our efforts PLUS understanding of his word and living it out
Similar to David, my experience mirror this reality: my well-intended actions, not grounded in God’s directives when chaos erupted, left our family in turmoil, leaving us questioning…what went wrong?
Consider it from this perspective:
imagine a group of children engaged in a board game, and suddenly, one child decides not to adhere to the rules of the game. What happens? Chaos break out
Not following God’s guidance, what happens? Chaos breaks out
In steering though life’s storms, the key lies in aligning our actions with God’s divine guidance.
The Bible serves as our compass, teaching us that true understanding and harmony comes from living out God’s word in every aspect of our lives.
