Interactive Lesson #26- What Did You Just Say?

Welcome Friends
As I sit here wrapped up in a blanket looking out the window to a miserable
day of cold, windy and snowy weather that kept me home from getting my son
his favorite meal at the senior center…spaghetti day,
I chose to focus on the beauty of the day instead of dwelling on disappointment.
I pray that you also find beauty in your day.

As followers of the Lord, have you ever thought about- really listening to what you say?
Like what, you ask?
Let me share with you what I have learned recently that I never really thought about
and maybe you have not either.
Let’s look at some common saying that followers of the Lord might say to others
and tell me what you see

1. I don’t have enough money to pay my bills
2. nothing ever goes right for me
3. I’m so overwhelmed, I can’t handle this
4. I feel so alone
5. I don’t think I’ll ever get out of this situation
6. I’m afraid things will never get better
7. I’m not strong enough to deal with this

Negativity, you might say?
complaining, hopelessness, fear, and self-focus
all true but what about–
They are all based on circumstances and not faith

If you have friends or family members that are not followers of the Lord,
what message might we be giving them by talking like this?
Maybe something like-
1. “Why would I want to follow their God if it doesn’t seem to help them?”
2. “If Christians struggle like this, what’s the point of following Jesus?”
3. “They say God is good, but they complain just as much as I do.”
4.. “They talk about trusting God, but they don’t seem to actually trust Him”
5. “They’re just like me, except they go to church.”
6. “Maybe God isn’t real or doesn’t care.”

When you say something like, “I don’t have enough money to pay my bills,”
You’re planting a seed of doubt, not just in yourself, but in those around you.
Instead, shift your focus to faith:
“I may not have enough right now, but I trust in the Lord as my provider.”
By shifting our words, we are also shifting our hearts toward faith.
You’ve planted a seed of faith.
Turning your focus away from the problem and toward the Father.

The words we speak in difficult moments can be our most powerful testimony

Our words should reflect a faith that draws others in.
Showing them the hope, peace, and trust we have in Christ.
By our confidence in God’s promises, we become a light in a dark world
that faith in Him truly makes a difference.
Our words should encourage, uplift, and point people toward the One who gives us strength,
rather than doubt or fear.
We can inspire others to seek the God who strengthens and guides us through every trial.

I am so grateful for the new heart I’ve been given, filled with a passion for studying and learning.
I never realized just how many areas of my life had room for growth and improvement.

Colossians 1:10-“So that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work,
growing in the knowledge of God.”

In this verse, Paul is praying for believers that they should not remain stagnant in their faith but should growing in their relationship with God.
Growing in the Knowledge of God – Spiritual growth is a lifelong process
This verse challenges us to actively pursue spiritual maturity rather than staying in a place of stagnation.
It reminds us that Christianity is not just about knowing God but about growing in Him,

I hope this has encouraged you today as much as it has encouraged me.
The small changes we make each day keep us growing and maturing,
helping us avoid stagnation and move closer to God.

Let’s take a moment to truly listen to the words you speak.
Our words have the power influence those around us, showing the world that faith in Christ
truly makes a difference.
May we continue to grow in Him,

Heaven Father
I come humbly before you today with an open heart.
A heart that desires to learn and grow. A heart that desire to make a small change
today by learning to listen to what I say.
Help me to be mindful of the words I speak, by not letting any last thing out of my mouth
be a negative saying but of encouragement that points toward You.
I also pray that by drawing closer to You in making small daily changes that
we all keep growing and prevent from becoming stagnant in our walk with You.
In Jesus’ name I pray
Amen

I invite you to join me on this journey
Let’s allow God to transform our hearts.
True change starts from within, and when He changes us, we can better impact the world around us
